About Me

My name is Assaf Tal, age 29. I’ve just graduated with a PhD in the field of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). However, my academic research interests are broad, and vary from artificial life and intelligence to complexity, statistical physics and audio related signal processing.

Curriculum Vitae

A not-up-to-date CV can be found here (in PDF format), complete with contact details and a list of publications. I’ll be uploading an updated one soon.

My PhD Thesis

You can download my PhD thesis here. The thesis is concerned with the design and application of spatial-spectral pulses and encoding methods in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. Spectroscopy wise it mainly investigates single-scan methods, while imaging-wise it presents a new approach to MRI which doesn’t relyon k-space; this allows it to correct for spatial inhomogeneities and carry out chemical-shift imaging quite naturally.

Musical Background

I am a veteran pianist. I am an experienced session musician and freelance in productions which are in need of a keyboard player - if yours needs one, please feel free to contact me. Here are some samples of my own music and songs I’ve taken part in (some songs are in Hebrew):

Oceans of Love - I’ve played piano on this one and did some of the string arrangements. The song was written by Idan Katz, who also doubles as the singer, and produced by Ron Hachmon (guitar, bass) and Benjamin Azarya (drums).

Morning Song - One of my own songs. Alas, lack of real drums meant using sampled substitutes. My thanks go to Avi Orenstein for singing it (in Hebrew).

New Age - An old arrangement and song of myself. Instrumental.

Sorry - written by Tal More and sung by Gali Sadeh (in Hebrew). Arranged by Ron Hachmon and Benji Azarya. Piano & keyboards are my doing.

My Town - written and arranged by Tal More and sung by Roee Tal (in Hebrew). Keyboards are my doing.
